This course is a perquisite for AHA advanced courses in resuscitation, including advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS) and BLS instructor courses. This course presumes that

This course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO).

There are both Knowledge (Cognitive) Objectives and Skills (Psychomotor) Objectives testing. Each participant will complete a minimum of 3 scenarios and 3 peer practice sessions. In the scenarios the participant performs as the healthcare provider who:
Activates the emergency response system;
Performs maneuvers to relieve FBAO in the responsive or unresponsive victim;
Performs rescue breathing or CPR using an appropriate barrier device;
Performs bag-mask ventilation;
Safely and accurately uses an AED.
